Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Redzuan Md Yusof set tongues wagging again with regard to his news conference, scheduled for 4.30pm this evening.
This has fueled speculation that the Alor Gajah MP might announce his resignation.
The Bersatu lawmaker had informed the press about his intention to hold a news conference after attending the party's supreme council meeting last night.
Asked if he would be resigning, he had replied: "No, no, no, too much speculation. Tomorrow (Friday) I have a press conference."
Queried about the presser earlier today, an aide told Malaysiakini to "just come." However, another aide claimed that the news conference is not confirmed.
The Star, on the other hand, quoted a source that Redzuan would not be announcing his resignation.
"They are trying to pit Redzuan against (Prime Minister) Muhyiddin (Yassin)," said the source.
If Redzuan withdraws his support for Muhyiddin and Perikatan Nasional, it could result in a hung Parliament.
Yesterday, Bersatu's Sri Gading MP Shahruddin Salleh resigned as deputy works minister but it remains unclear if he still supported the PN alliance.
Following the Parliament sitting on May 18, it was revealed that Muhyiddin's government possessed a razor-thin majority of two seats while Pakatan Harapan claims it has sufficient numbers to recapture Putrajaya.
Bersatu is embroiled in an internal tussle between Muhyiddin, who is the president, and the party's disputed chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Last Friday, Redzuan had ignited speculation regarding his resignation after he had a meeting with Mahathir.
A press conference invitation was later sent, but this did not materialise.
Redzuan later clarified that he had no intention of quitting PN and had tried to coax Mahathir to work with Muhyiddin during the meeting with the former premier.
Besides Redzuan, Bersatu Women's chief Rina Harun was also rumoured to be resigning but she denied this last week. - Mkini
