'You weren't in the meeting' - DAP, Amanah tell PKR treasurer

Malaysiakini

DAP and Amanah have disputed PKR treasurer-general Lee Chean Chung's conflicting chronology of Pakatan Harapan's first meeting to hash out who should become prime minister if the coalition regains power.
DAP organising secretary Anthony Loke and Amanah communications director Khalid Samad said that Lee (photo, above) was never part of the Harapan president council and had never attended the meetings.
"As such, he doesn't know the content of the discussions and agreements made during the May 30 meeting.
"We issued our statement yesterday because that is what was decided, and it had been minuted," they said in a joint statement today.
Yesterday, Loke and Khalid said the Harapan presidential council had endorsed PKR president Anwar Ibrahim as prime minister during the May 30 meeting.
They added it was also agreed that the fallback was for disputed Bersatu chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad to become prime minister if Anwar couldn't get the numbers to form the government.
Lee, however, claimed that on May 30, Harapan only resolved for Anwar to be the prime ministerial candidate. No other options were discussed.
"We suggest that Lee refers to Harapan chief secretary Saifuddin Nasution to get the meeting minutes before making any statements about it," Loke and Khalid said.
The duo reiterated that they respect PKR's decision and accept it with an open heart.
"But the true facts need not be hidden," they added.
PKR yesterday rejected the possibility of Mahathir becoming the prime ministerial candidate but said it was still open to working with him.
DAP and Amanah, however, are in favour of Mahathir having a third stint as prime minister for six months, with Anwar as his deputy.
Mahathir's allies have argued that he was more palatable to the East Malaysian bloc, which is instrumental in the formation of any majority.
Anwar had earlier this week travelled to Sarawak to court for GPS' support but to no avail. GPS has 18 MPs. - Mkini
