Covid-19 vaccination certificates in the form of physical cards are already being sold via online marketplaces, prompting a doctor to question how the authorities would be able to ascertain the authenticity of such cards.
Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital’s Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department chief Dr Mohd Rushdan Noor posted screenshots of an online listing of a physical card with the Covid-19 vaccination digital certificate printed on it that was being sold for RM15.
“Already being sold online. If the public are allowed to make ID cards with the vaccination certificates or to print their own vaccination certificates, how will the authorities identify which is real or false?” he questioned in the posting on Facebook earlier today.
A cursory search by Malaysiakini on popular online marketplaces easily found several similar listings offering to print the Covid-19 digital certificates on an identification card.
However, the listings do not imply they will print false certifications and most of them request their buyers to provide a legitimate digital vaccination certificate for printing.
Previously, the Special Committee for Ensuring Access to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV) said there would not be any physical Covid-19 vaccination certificate.
It said proof of Covid-19 vaccination will only be available in two forms - the digital certificate in the MySejahtera app and the vaccination card given to people at vaccination centres.
However, JKJAV also said users will soon be able to print out the digital certificate from MySejahtera.
Health Deputy Minister Dr Noor Azmi Ghazali said stern action will be taken against those who falsify digital vaccine certificates.
“We will investigate. The Health Ministry’s enforcement will be very careful in ensuring and verifying the authenticity of vaccination certificates,” he said, as reported by Bernama today.
He also said this issue of falsifying vaccination certificates will be brought to the ministry’s special meeting soon so they can come up with appropriate methods to prevent such acts. - Mkini
