Two Pakatan Harapan MPs have urged Home Affairs Minister Hamzah Zainudin to be objective regarding the police reports they lodged over receiving messages offering them ministerial positions and money to support the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government.
Ipoh Barat MP M Kulasegaran and Kota Melaka MP Khoo Poay Tiong said the minister insinuated the reports they made were “false and slanderous” after Hamzah (above) said the police will also investigate the validity of their allegations in the reports.
“We are appalled that the home minister has instructed the police to investigate the authenticity of our reports to the authorities instead of focusing on the incident itself.
“The home minister ought to take the reports seriously without any prejudice. The government has all the necessary powers and facilities to investigate and ensure no political corruption takes place.
“Instead, the home minister has shown his political bias and apathy towards the issue,” Kula and Khoo said in a joint statement today.
The two of them said Pakatan Harapan MPs have no interest or time for “dirty political tactics and treachery”.
In this time of both health and economic crises, they said they are focused only on the wellbeing of the rakyat.
“The home minister can investigate all he wants and we have nothing to hide,” they said.
Offering positions and money via WhatsApp messages in exchange for political support is a matter of national importance, they said, as Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin had said he would put himself through a confidence vote in the Dewan Rakyat in September.
“Therefore, we have performed our civic duty to report the issue to the relevant authorities,” they said.
Kula and Khoo also urged the MACC to submit a formal report to Parliament on this matter so that it can be debated in the Dewan Rakyat.
It was reported last Saturday that several opposition MPs received messages offering them incentives to defect.
Aside from Kula and Khoo, Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii also received similar messages.
The messages, which came from unknown numbers, had offered “durian RM30” and ministerial positions. - Mkini
