#KerajaanTumbang trends on Twitter

After Muhyiddin Yassin’s resignation, netizens are hoping for a prime minister who is “honest, credible, clean and trustworthy”.

PETALING JAYA: The #KerajaanTumbang (fallen government) hashtag is rapidly trending on Twitter after news that Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin tendered his resignation.

Several ministers have taken to social media to announce their departure from their posts over the past two hours, among them science, technology and innovation (Mosti) minister Khairy Jamaluddin, senior minister for security Hishammuddin Hussein and tourism, arts and culture minister Nancy Shukri.

Muhyiddin, who had an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong earlier today, is set to deliver a live address at 3pm.

Twitter user @imrannzri said he prayed that the next prime minister is someone who is “honest, credible, clean and trustworthy”.

Meanwhile, @iamarelong said that the next prime minister has to make sure to put competent people in key positions.

“Enough with people of interest, power,” he said.

Another user, @sybreon, revelled in the fact that the #KerajaanTumbang hashtag “has become reality”

However, he warned that before Malaysians celebrate, they must be careful not to end up “jumping from the pan and into the fire”.

“I will have to put my faith in the King’s wisdom in appointing a prime minister who can dig us out of this hole,” he said.

On Friday, Muhyiddin, who has been under fire over the management of the Covid-19 pandemic and the revocation of the emergency ordinances, proposed a framework for bipartisan political cooperation, admitting that he lost majority support.

However, Umno and opposition parties rejected the move and renewed demand for his resignation. - FMT
