'Monkey wearing Covid-19 pink wristband is fake news'

 

The Kelantan Health Department has denied a widely circulated story on social media claiming a monkey has tested positive for Covid-19 in Gua Musang.

Its director Dr Zaini Hussin said the viral story accompanied with photos showing the monkey wearing a pink wristband, is completely false and clarified that his department has never done Covid-19 testing on animals.

“That claim is ridiculous because we’ve never done any testing on animals.

"I urge all not to spread unverified news because it could cause public unease,” he said when contacted in Kota Bharu today.

Earlier, the image of the monkey went viral on Whatsapp and Facebook amid some users claiming it tested positive for Covid-19.

Another image showed the monkey placed inside a cage waiting to be carried onto an ambulance. - Mkini
