PM: We can overcome all hurdles

 

PETALING JAYA: There must be resolve and determination among the entire Malaysian Family to win the fight against Covid-19 and help the nation’s economy recover, says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

“On this sacred day, let us all vow to help the recovery of this nation which was built irrespective of religion, race or ethnicity,” the Prime Minister said in his National Day address to the nation in conjunction with the 64th National Day celebration.

He said every Malaysian should continue to champion the fight against the pandemic as the nation’s main enemy.

He noted that the current challenges had threatened political stability, not only in Malaysia but also the rest of the world.

“What we are facing today has never been faced by any leader or government before this. We are facing several challenges at once, namely the pandemic and the economic downturn,” Ismail Sabri added.

Only through the cooperation of all parties and vaccinations would the fight against Covid-19 succeed, he said, adding that this was vital to revive the economy, improve the rakyat’s welfare and restore investors’ confidence.“I call on the Malaysian Family to get vaccinated as soon as possible as this will help the nation recover. Vaccines have proven to have a positive impact, especially in efforts to combat the pandemic,” he said.

He also touched on the struggles and sacrifices made by past multiracial leaders and those who died defending the country.

“We want to have the spirit of togethernesss shown by Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj, Tun Abdul Razak Hussein, Tun Hussein Onn, Tun Dr Ismail Rahman, Tun Tan Cheng Lock, Tun HS Lee and Tun VT Sambanthan.

“This also includes leaders from Sabah dan Sarawak such as Tun Datu Mustapha, Tun Muhammad Fuad Stephens, Tun Abdul Rahman Ya’kub and Tun Temenggong Jugah.

“I have to mention a few historical facts because a nation that wants to rise from any crisis, must know its history. Individuals who know history will have a strong identity and mutual respect,” Ismail Sabri noted.

“More importantly, they will be focused on overcoming any challenge as one big Malaysian Family,” he said, adding that he hoped this would be the last year the National Day celebrations were held during a pandemic. - Star
