PETALING JAYA: A teenager and two of his friends have been arrested in Melaka after concocting a plan for his own “arrest”.
Bernama reported that the 15-year-old student’s two friends impersonated policemen so that they could deceive his mother into paying money for his “release”.
Alor Gajah district police chief Arshad Abu said the student did not return home on Nov 25, and two days later, one of his friends impersonated a policeman and met the boy’s mother.
He told the 58-year-old mother, who is a clinic assistant, that her son had been arrested.
He also told her that her son could be released if she paid him a specific amount of money.
Arshad said the woman withdrew RM25,000 from her Tabung Haji account on Nov 29 before handing it over to her son’s friend, who was with another friend.
He said her son returned home the next day.
However, his mother later found out that he was not arrested after checking with the Seremban police station, and lodged a report at the Masjid Tanah police station on Dec 2.
Arshad said the trio are expected to be charged tomorrow under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. - FMT
