PETALING JAYA
Japanese Katsuhito Kinoshi has been appointed Selangor FC’s new head coach to replace Nidzam Jamil, who resigned unexpectedly last month.

In a statement, the Red Giants described Kinoshi as a coach with extensive experience who will bring in-depth knowledge of the game and strong leadership qualities.

The club also said Kinoshi’s coaching philosophy blends tactical discipline with creative attacking play, while also emphasising teamwork and mental toughness.

“His expertise in team building, strategy, and young player development will be a great asset to our team in its quest to achieve success,” it said.

“His (Kinoshi) expertise in coaching, along with the experience he has gained from working with several leading coaches, will give the team the direction and identity it needs to succeed.”

Kinoshi, 60, who is helming a club for the first time, was previously the assistant coach for the Serbian national team, where he worked under Dragan Stojkovic and helped the team qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

He also previously served as an assistant coach at Nagoya Grampus Eight, Yokohama FC, and Guangzhou FC.

“I am honoured to join Selangor FC, and I am excited to work with the talented players here. Together, we will strive to build a team that is not only strong tactically but also filled with spirit and determination to succeed,” he said in the statement.

Selangor are currently second in the Super League, 11 points behind leaders Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT), who have collected 40 points from 14 games.

Selangor are on track to qualify for the knockout round of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champions League 2 (ACL2) as they are in second place in Group H, two points behind leaders Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors of South Korea. - FMT
