Umno can’t depend on ‘strikers’ alone to win, says Johari Ghani

 The Umno vice-president says all party members and leaders must work hard as a team at every level in preparing for GE16.

Umno vice-president Johari Ghani said the party must take the views of youths into account since they will make up a huge segment of the electorate in the next general election.

 Umno vice-president Johari Ghani has called for party members and leadership at every level to work hard in preparing for the next general election (GE16).

Using football as an analogy, Johari said a team cannot be solely dependent on having one good striker to produce the goods and help the team win every match, Berita Harian reported.

“You can’t just have one good striker while the rest of the team doesn’t perform. So we must all fight as a team.

“If we are all on the same page for the general election, that is half the job done. The rest depends on the issues that arise involving the government and country,” he was quoted as saying.

Speaking at Shah Alam Umno’s annual general meeting, the plantation and commodities minister urged party members to undergo a thorough change in mindset to ensure Umno remained relevant in the national landscape.

“This included taking the views of youths into account since they will make up a huge segment of the electorate come GE16,” he said.

“Young voters make up about 40% of voters, and they have a different way of thinking compared with our forefathers.

“If we cannot understand the way youngsters think, how will we change and continue to raise young leaders who understand (the young voters),” Johari said. - FMT
