PETALING JAYA: Star Media Group Berhad, which publishes The Star print products and online portal, refers to a TikTok account misusing The Star's brand identity.
It has come to the group’s attention that the TikTok account @xtramedia25 falsely claims to be run by an employee of The Star.
The Star is not associated with @xtramedia25 in any way or form.
A closer look at the @xtramedia25 TikTok account shows that it misuses pictures of various people, taken from Pinterest and other sources, to pass off as a supposed journalist and palace insider.
Apart from engaging in identity theft, @xtramedia25 also posts false allegations of imagined interactions with members of royalty and other prominent individuals.
Should you come across suspicious TikTok accounts impersonating The Star or any other brands, please take the following steps.
Tap the arrow symbol on the upper right, and choose the ‘Report’ option.
This will lead you to ‘Select a Reason’, after which you can ‘Report account’ for ‘Frauds and scams’.
This will alert TikTok of fraudsters who violate community guidelines by impersonating The Star’s online presence on its social media platform, and help ensure a safer online environment for all. - Star
