Police, MCMC reports lodged against J-Kom DG over 'Cina sesat' post

Businessperson Albert Tei has lodged reports with the police and MCMC against Community Communications Department (J-Kom) director-general Hisyamuddin Ghazali over his controversial “Cina sesat” (misguided Chinese) post.

Tei was one of two individuals singled out by Hisyamuddin (above), who vowed to take action against them for allegedly spreading slander against the government.

The other was former BN strategic communications deputy director, Eric See-To.

However, Hisyamuddin’s reference to the pair as Cina sesat sparked backlash. Although he later apologised, he denied the remark was racist and claimed it had been deliberately taken out of context.

In his complaint to the MCMC, Tei argued that the post could incite racial sentiment and hatred, potentially disrupting public order.

“The statement ‘Cina sesat’ contains clear elements that touch on sensitivities involving race, religion, and royalty (3R issues),” he said.

Tei also lodged a police report with the Putrajaya district police headquarters over the same matter.

Staunch critic

The businessperson, who exposed the Sabah mining corruption scandal, has since emerged as a staunch critic of the government, accusing it of shielding politicians implicated in the case.

The government has denied this accusation, with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim stating last November that the files have not been closed.

Previously, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil advised Hisyamuddin to be more careful with his choice of words to avoid them from being manipulated.

“I told him his energy and dynamism are very good, but at the same time, we need to be careful to ensure the people understand what we are trying to convey.

“Don’t leave room for manipulation by enemies and those seeking to make an issue out of it,” he said.

Earlier, Fahmi’s deputy, Teo Nie Ching, urged all parties to refrain from using improper language or making remarks that could touch on 3R sensitivities when commenting on the controversy surrounding the J-Kom chief. - Mkini
