Pakatan Rakyat will launch a fund next month and seek to collect RM20 million in contributions to finance the opposition coalition's efforts to take over Putrajaya after the 13th general elections.
The launch of the Tabung Impian Rakyat ('The People's Dream') fund will take place on Aug 7 at the Melawati Stadium Shah Alam and will see the participation of top Pakatan leaders such as Anwar Ibrahim and Nik Abdul Aziz, said PAS central committee member Husam Musa (right).Husam said the quantum was 'inspired' by the accusation by a former aide, Syed Azidi Aziz, that PAS had allocated RM4 million to topple former prime minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi from office and weaken Kelantan Umno.
“Even prior to this I was accused of having spent RM4 million for the 2008 general elections... the polls proved we succeeded, but it doesn't mean the accusation is true,” Husam was reported as saying by PAS organ Harakah.
“Now, we will collect RM20 million for Putrajaya,” he added.
Husam, who is also a Kelantan exco member, asserted that neither PAS nor the Kelantan government had paid anybody as much as RM4 million to topple any government.
PAS has long received contributions from its members as part of its struggle to uphold Islam, said Husam.
