Najib must ensure justice even if culprits are from MACC, Umno

Viktor Wong, Malaysia Chronicle

It is already more than a year now and the inquest has yet to resolve the suspicious death of Teoh Beng Hock and those responsible for it are still happily walking free.

The federal government-appointed forensic experts have also kept giving conflicting and confusing views on the victim's condition. At one time, the authorities even tried to deny the rights of the victim's family to have their own forensic expert examine Beng Hock's body.

And recently, we learned that the Attorney-General has actually been withholding a piece of major evidence from the inquest. What is going on? The AG's action clearly shows that his chambers have scant regard for their own judiciary system.

We are glad that the Teoh family has not given up hope and we can see they will not give up so easily. They will continue to seek justice for their child, brother and husband. The Malaysian people are all behind them and we shall be always be with them.

But the prime minister seems to have forgotten his promise made to the Teoh family to not allow any cover up. So, let us all remind him of his promise again and again.

Najib must make good on his promise

Dear PM Najib, you promised the inquest would be over within two weeks and all those responsible brought to justice. But two weeks have long gone and it is more than a year now.

Furthermore, the coroner has been giving so many unreasonable and lame excuses to delay the hearing and inquiry, we wonder why? Are the authorities simply doing it to make the Teoh family frustrated and finally give up on the case.

But let's face it, the Teoh family - with the support of the nation - will not forget. They will continue to soldier on. And so shall we.

From the way things are shaping up, the inquest can even go on for another two years or more if the MACC and the AG get their way. Things have gotten worst especially with the latest revelation that the AG has been withholding crucial evidence.

All the government agencies and institutions involved are not going to stand up for fair play either. No way, they will. Too many heads will roll if they do - and we are talking about bigwigs from not just the MACC but also Umno.

So they will continue with their "sandiwara semasa". Strange that they can think every one in the country will soon forget about the case and the matter easily fade away. But we are not fools and do not like having our intelligence under-estimated.

As long as this case remains unresolved, we shall continue with our candlelight vigils and memorial services nationwide every year until the culprits at MACC and Umno are fully exposed and brought to justice.

Justice for Teoh Beng Hock!
