The state government has been urged to lodge a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over the Saham Amanah Sabah (SAS) fiasco. This is the least Barisan Nasional component Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) can do for investors after having turned down a motion in the State Legislative Assembly this week to publish a White Paper on the issue, an opposition party said yesterday.
The Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) assistant secretary-general Foo Fooki Ming said the state government or PBS could and should do this since it has adamantly objected to SAPP’s repeated calls for a White Paper on the issue.
He said that to be fair to SAS investors, PBS leaders like Yee Moh Chai, Chin Teck Ming, Johnny Mositun and Herbert Timbon Lagadan who have been seen to be “championing” the issue for years should make a report to MACC or to other relevant authorities without further ado.
“Yee, Herbert, Mositun, and Chin kept pointing their fingers at Yong (Teck Lee, the SAPP president and former chief minister) for all the SAS losses but they have also objected to the motion to publish a White Paper.
"Why did PBS strongly object to the motion? Who are they protecting: Yong or the real culprits?” he asked.
“I see a hidden agenda. Yee and Chin know that SAS official documents cannot be revealed by any individual to the public because of the Official Secrets Act (OSA). Only the government and assembly have the power to disclose these documents through a White Paper report,” Foo said.
Foo also thanked Chin for inadvertently revealing that Umno leaders were involved in the SAS fiasco as reported in the local Chinese press yesterday.
He said Chin who made the new revelation should nevertheless ask his political master Yee, "who is the best person to know who were involved".
“Yee also revealed that he has information from the SAS board in the recent State Legislative Assembly sitting, so I believe he has all the facts about the SAS losses and those involved.”
He also noted that while more than half of the State Legislative Assembly comprises Umno members, surprisingly none of them had anything to say during the debate on the SAS motion.
"The question is, why did none of the Umno YBs say anything? Only YBs from PBS and Gerakan spoke up."
