Enough is enough! We are tired of it all!

Non-stop racial politicking has taken a toll on M'sia
Lim Mun Fah

Each day we read news about politicians spending time and energy engaging in wars of words, the critical teacher shortage in Chinese primary schools remaining unsolved but getting worse, economic policies being deviated from the initial goals, little Napoleons creating and causing trouble everywhere, racial tension and temperature being raised by irresponsible people, horror road tragedies claiming lives of innocent people, and the New Economic Model is facing obstacles and challenges.

Of course, something is certainly wrong in our country with all these problems. Those who have been bullying keep on bullying, those who have been in anxiety remain anxious, those who have been overbearing keep on overbearing, those who are bias remain bias, and those who have been speeding above speed limits keep on speeding.

What are the problems?.

Permissive management is a problem.

Turning a blind eye to the problems is a problem.

Racial prejudice is a problem.

Loose enforcement is a problem.

Corruption is also a problem.

These issues are related to politics, economy, culture, education and the people's livelihood. Issues related to politics, economy, culture and education have always been labelled as "sensitive" and thus, they are not allowed to be openly discussed and as a result, they are left unsettled.

Meanwhile, it is not much better for issues related to the people's livelihood. Take long-distance bus accidents as example, every time after a massive accident, our Transport Ministry would vow to take counter measures and resolve the problems. But let's take a look at the record for the past 10 years:

* In 1990, the Cabinet Road Safety Committee was formed after 17 people were killed. A target of reducing 30% of traffic accident death toll was set. As a result, the death toll increased instead of decreased.
* In 2001, all long-distance buses were required to install a black box to record their speed after 13 people were killed and 49 were injured. As a result, the decision is made but not implemented.
* In 2003, all bus drivers were required to be physically and mentally healthy after 14 people were killed and 26 were injured. As a result, it has been left unimplemented.
* In 2007, the health status of all bus drivers was required to be equals to the health status of pilots after 20 people were killed and nine were injured. As a result, nothing has been done!In 2009, substandard buses were not allowed to be on roads after 10 people were killed and two were injured. As a result, there is no follow up action after a roadblock operation.

Enough is enough! I really don't want to repeat it any more. I just want to say, "Don't make me wait too long!"
