Ex-airman’s habeas corpus application postponed to Wednesday

January 17, 2011

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 17 — The High Court here has postponed the hearing of former airman N. Tharmendran’s habeas corpus application against his detention by the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) to Wednesday.

Today is the third time the case has been postponed after it first came before judge Datuk Su Geok Yiam on December 3.

The hearing was supposed to be held on December 10 but was first postponed to January 4, and was postponed again to today.

“We are disappointed because we were all ready,” Tharmendran’s(picture) lawyer Amer Hamzah Arshad told reporters outside the court today.

“This does not reflect what the CJ (Chief Justice Tun Zaki Azmi) said on Saturday about introducing improvements and expediting cases,” he said.

Tharmendran is accused of abetting senior airman Mohamad Shukri Mohamad Yusop in the high-profile theft of two fighter jet engines in 2008.
