However, the Sarawak deputy chief minister, who returned from Kuala Lumpur, declined to disclose details except to say: “I’m very happy I have a secret weapon now after I come back from Kuala Lumpur. The secret weapon will be released at the proper time.
As part of the strategy to win all its 19 seats in the imminent state election, Dr Chan said, the party had appointed 300 young and energetic election campaigners.
He said the “soldiers”, from all strata of society, were trained and tasked to go to the ground, meet the voters and gain the people’s confidence.
“We are going to have a really tough battle but I can tell you there is hope in the air. I see a change (in the Chinese community) of their attitude towards us. They see that SUPP is serious in changing too,” he said.
When asked whether his visit to Kuala Lumpur would bring more good news and goodies for the Chinese community, Dr Chan said: “Yes, we have always fought for it.”
In the last state election, in 2006, the SUPP lost eight of the 19 seats it contested.
It gained one seat when independent Engkilili assemblyman Dr Johnicol Rayong joined the party last year. — Bernama
