Lewd comics of Anwar, Nurul files report

Comics with obscene photos of Anwar are being distributed in his daughter's Lembah Pantai parliamentary constituency.

KUALA LUMPUR: PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah has lodged a police report over a comic book containing lewd images of her father, Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim.

The 16-page book entitled, Kisah Juara Raja Lawak, was distributed to newly registered voters in Nurul’s Lembah Pantai parliamentary constituency.

The comic was allegedly sent out via a post office in Shah Alam.

Nurul lodged the report with the Dang Wangi police station this afternoon after one of the voters who received the booklet alerted her.

“This smacks of a well-orchestrated campaign to smear the reputation and credibility of our opposition leader and Pakatan Rakyat,” she said in a statement.

“It is also aimed at sullying my image as the MP for Lembah Pantai as well as the opposition leader’s eldest daughter,” she added.

Nurul stated that the distribution of obscene pamphlets was a federal offence under Section 292 (a) of the Penal Code. Offenders could be jailed up to three years, fined or both.

She added that under Sections 499 and 500 of the Penal Code, those found guilty of defamation could be jailed up to two years, fined, or both.

“I call upon the police to swiftly, fairly and thoroughly investigate this case and ensure that the perpetrators of this despicable crime of gutter politics are brought to book,” she said.

Failure to do so, Nurul said, would indicate that the government condoned such actions.

“I would like to remind and invite all politicians to support a new political culture devoid of such mudslinging antics that leave us bereft of any sense of moral integrity.

“The rakyat expects more from us. Let us not betray their hopes and aspirations,” she added.

Nurul also pushed the police to investigate the four police reports lodged by Anwar between July 9 and Aug 20, 1999 regarding the allegations of misuse of power by former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Attorney-General Gani Patail.

She referred to the open letter by former KL CID chief, Mat Zain Ibrahim to current Inspector General of Police Ismail Omar which accused the AG of deceiving the Cabinet over Anwar’s black eye evidence probe.

Mat Zain was the police officer who investigated the black eye incident in 1998. - FMT
