DPM: Sarawak PR manifesto another ‘sun and the sky’ list of promises

SIBU, April 8 — Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin rubbished Pakatan Rakyat’s newly-launched Sarawak manifesto, saying that just like it in Selangor the coalition was unable to fulfil any of its promises.

To drive home his point, Muhyiddin, the Barisan Nasional (BN) deputy chairman, listed several promises the PR had made in its manifesto for Selangor which it has been unable to fulfil till today.

Muhyiddin (picture), who was in town to campaign for the ruling coalition ahead of the April 16 Sarawak polls, said the achievements the PR boasted of in Selangor and Penang were in reality the fruits of BN’s previous rule.

“Their manifesto has nothing grand. They just want to take down the BN and gain power. And to do that, they’ll promise you the sun and the sky,” he said at a dinner here tonight.

In its 10-point manifesto, the PR promised, among others, to set up a land reform commission, to defend freedom of religion, a RM1 billion fund to tackle hardcore poverty, to restore local authority elections and a greener Sarawak.

The PR manifesto was launched a day after the BN’s own nine-point manifesto.

“When I go to Selangor, I ask people, have they (PR) given you aid for pre-school children like they promised? They said no.

“What about the RM1,000 grant to any family whose child manages to get into college or university? No. They lie.

“What about 90 days of maternity leave for expectant mothers and 14 days of leave for husbands to take care of their pregnant wives? No.

“So are we to believe them when they can’t fulfil these promises in Selangor but they can fulfil these ones in Sarawak?” Muhyiddin said.

He went to accuse the PR of ruining Selangor by making it hard for companies to operate there and said this could be the fate of Sarawak if the PR comes to power. - Malaysian Insider
