M Kulasegaran says since Najib is powerless to do so, the task of ousting Taib Mahmud is now in the hands of the people.
PETALING JAYA: DAP vice-chairman M Kulasegaran has urged Sarawakians to vote out their chief minister of more than three decades, Taib Mahmud, come April 16.
In a statement, the Ipoh Barat MP said Taib’s grip on the state had lasted too long and he should not be allowed to stay in power a day longer.
“Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak said Taib will quit after the state election and Taib said he will resign in a few years’ time.
“While Najib and Taib can bargain with themselves, Sarawakians must show the government that they will not accept any bargain from the government and vote Taib out,” he added.
Likening Taib to a “rotten fish” that must be thrown away, Kulasegaran said it was obvious that Najib was powerless to oust Najib and therefore it was up to the people to do so.
The DAP leader then criticised Najib for ignoring the plight of Sarawakians who were suffering under Taib’s rule.
“Najib said people should not change for the sake of changing. Has he not heard about the people’s anger against corruption and nepotism that have plagued Sarawak for a long time?” he asked.
Kulasegaran then urged Sarawakians to translate their frustration into votes and create a political tsunami that would flush Taib’s administration out of the state.
“When people don’t fear, when people say enough is enough, that is when Barisan Nasional will fear people’s power,” he said.
