DAP national chairman Karpal Singh said an RCI should not be set up for “inconsequential” matters, stressing that the focus should instead be on Anwar’s police report.
“Why should there be a royal commission of inquiry over this tape?” he told reporters at a PR press conference in Parliament today.
The Gelugor MP said it was more important to probe former Malacca Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Rahim Thamby Chik, businessmen Datuk Shazryl Eskay Abdullah and Perkasa treasurer-general Datuk Shuib Lazim — collectively known as “Datuk T” — for screening the video.
“Datuk T has publicly admitted and, from their admission, what is clear is the number of crimes committed by them,” Karpal said.
The practising lawyer said the three could be investigated under section 292 of the Penal Code and section 5 of the Film Censorship Act for allegedly distributing obscene material as well as criminal defamation and criminal intimidation.
