DPM warns Bar Council: Don't question judge’s decision on sex video

Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has slammed the Bar Council for questioning the judge's decision to screen the sex video implicating Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim in court on Friday.

Expressing surprise, Muhyiddin said it was up to the public to decide whether to accept the findings of the experts on the sex video or not. He also accused the Bar Council of harboring "political" motive".

“I don't know why they are so interested. There seems to be a political motive behind it,” Star reported him as saying.

Sinking credibility

A news website had reported Bar Council president Lim Chee Wee as describing the Magistrate's decision to screen the video as “shocking” and “extraordinary”. But Lim was not the only one, nor the Bar Council the only body to slam the Najib administration for overly using the judiciary to tar and discredit political rivals.

The glaring reason was because those accused of screening the video had already pleaded guilty to the crime and such an order was therefore unnecessary.

According to the defense lawyer, US experts had confirmed that the sex video was authentic and there was a 99.99% possibility the man in the video was the Opposition Leader.

The immediate question it sparked was whose photo was sent to match against the sex tape?

There is a huge lack of credibility in the Malaysian police force, which has been caught red-handed many times colluding with other government agencies including pathologies to falsify and cover findings.

The 'frogs' jump in too

Meanwhile, several Independent MPs - including the likes of Kulim Bandar Bhary's Zulkifli Noordin and Bayan Baru's Zahrain Hashim - have also called on Anwar to step down to "preserve the Parliament's sanctity" in light of the testimonies by the foreign experts.

However, there is little respect for this group of lawmakers calling themselves Konsensus Bebas as they defected in animosity from PKR and within the Malaysian political scene are contemptuosly called 'frogs' or defectors.

Their rush to hack down Anwar only reinforced the perception that the tape was an UMNO conspiracy and they themselves UMNO puppets.

Separately, in Jitra, Anwar said he was attacked in the sex video case without being given the chance to defend himself.

“This is a criminal case where the three individuals were sentenced for a crime but both the prosecution and the defence counsel joined forces to attack me,” he said.

Following the court screening of the video, his PKR party has said it is now 100.0% sure it was not Anwar. It has launched a counter-tape, 'Why it is not Anwar' (scroll below to watch).
