Gov't should serve the rakyat, not the IPPs

vox populi small thumbnail'Malaysians have to pay more for electricity because of the blunders by the BN government, and now they dare to say this is none of our business?'

Access to power purchase deals 'for MPs only'

Multi Racial: Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry Mukhriz Mahathir forgets that the government is there to serve the people. Any deal done which affect the people have to be disclosed publicly unless those involved have something to hide.

I believe the BN government has something to hide. Malaysians have to pay more for electricity because of the blunders by the BN government, and now they dare to say this is none of our business?

Soap Opra: The document is confidential because it will reflect BN stupidity in allowing the contract to take effect just to benefit few cronies. BN must bite the bullet for the past screw-ups.

Show to the public that you mean business when you say "people come first". We are a forgiving people but we can't forgive you if you continue lying to us.

Anonymous_3e16 Mukhriz, will keep your promise that the document(s) are to be given to the MPs in Parliament? All our YBs, please demand a copy of the document. After going through it, voice it out in Parliament and let the respective minister answer for it. Then slowly and surely, the public will know the true status of the agreement.

Orang_Gila_Malaya: The government is elected by rakyat, and we have the right to know every detail of the power purchase agreements (PPAs). By not being transparent, it's absolutely certain there's something to hide from rakyat.

We know your tricks. We're not living in your daddy's era. The PPA is not a national defence agreement.

Fellow Malaysian: We would like to know why the public can't obtain access to the agreements when toll highway agreements have been disclosed?

Is this process of only releasing it in Parliament amount to transferring some responsibilities and liabilities to the MPs if they in turn inform the public? Mukhriz, please come clean to this issue. The scrutiny and focus is intense; remember, the election is in the air.

P Dev Anand Pillai: The people are not allowed to see what they are forced to pay for, and Mukhriz claims to come from a party that has practised the welfare state from the time of its inception?

Don't the learned Malays find this rude, arrogant and aloof? If we want an affordable cost of living, then the leaders of the government that we have elected have got to answer our questions. If they can't, then they don't deserve to be leaders.

Clearwater: It is the public that is bearing the cost of these lopsided agreements forced upon Tenaga Nasional by a recalcitrant and petulant old man who was then the prime minister. You tell us we have no right to know how these agreements were drafted despite us being so badly shafted? The whole thing stinks and you still play-play with us?

KSN: The very fact that the agreements which are termed highly confidential cannot be made public tells a telling story about the contents. By now everyone knows that the PPAs are detrimental and against the country's and people's interests, and the benefits accruing to the cronies and families of our politicians perpetually.

But how can there be such contracts if they are not fair to both parties? All contracts can be reopened and renegotiated, and all contracts which are not fair are not enforceable. Some lawyers out there can give some tips to our government on how to go about this matter.

Can Mukhriz clarify whether all those contracts were signed when his father was the PM? Or is that piece of information highly confidential too? If possible, shed some light on the Economic Planning Unit's role in these shameful affairs and how much pressure his father put on EPU as charged by TNB's former chief Ani Arope, who resigned in protest.

On your toes: Would MPs be given the details of IPP agreements even if they were asked nicely? If so, when? If MPs were allowed access and the issues are discussed in Parliament, how are you to prevent the public from getting to know the details of the agreements?

And who are you to decide whether the people get to know or not? The people have the right to know, period. You don't get to decide, period.

Malay - Read Sakmongkol AK47 latest post http://malaysiansmustknowthetruth.blogspot.com/2011/06/two-opinions-on-ipp-issue.html and you will get the clearer picture that we, the RAKYAT have been ripped-off by Tun Mahathir and his UMNO/BN government. I think his son, Mukhriz does not want this exposed which will embarrass him and his 'great' DAD. - Malaysiakini
