Penang CPO, follow your own advice

your say'If you allow some chaps to have street protests because they feel they are 'terpinggir', they should also allow those lighting a candle by the esplanade.'

Penang CPO to politicians: Don't divide the people

Multi Racial: Can I have all the other state chief police officers (CPOs) and IGPs and all other senior government servants openly say the same thing?

Those who voted for opposition have been mistreated in their constituencies for more than half a century by BN and not a single CPO or IGP spoke up. Now suddenly the Penang CPO Ayub Yaakob finds the courage to do so.

Although I doubt his intention, I shall give him the benefit of doubt and applaud his action as this was expected from him and his colleagues in the government services for the past 50 years.

So now I expect him to walk the talk and also encourage all the others to speak up and do the same.

ONG: Ayub said his comments also apply to Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, who is DAP national secretary-general. He did not, perhaps because he dared not, apply his comments to Najib Abdul Razak, the PM who is also Umno president.

Lulu: Ayub should take his own advice and apply it in terms of the "illegal" assemblies. If you allow some chaps to have street protests because they feel they are 'terpinggir' (marginalised), they should also allow those who feel that lighting a candle by the esplanade to protest in their own way. The latter are more toned down and do not disrupt traffic.

If you arrest one, then you must arrest all. If you let one off, you must let all of them off. CPO of Penang cannot be seen taking sides.

Solaris: Fact 1: I have yet to see a community policing team (CPT) made up of any other race but Chinese.

Fact 2: The CPTs are predominantly "road crisis consultants", tow truck operators and gangsters who store their sticks and parang's in makeshift stores bearing the RMP-endorsed CPT banner.

I have personally witnessed them getting their weapons out in preparation for a gang fight. They also behave arrogantly and are inconsiderate to the public wherever they congregate. So how, Lim Guan Eng? Is this your and DAP's idea of community security?

The state assembly representative for Pantai Jerejak seems to have recruited a CPT consisting entirely of his own ethnicity for Bayan Baru . As evinced, this seems to be the standard practice for most CPT recruitment. One wonders if they are really CPTs or if they're Guan Eng's enforcers.

Even the CPT Facebook page is subscripted in Chinese and subscribed to by Chinese. The Penang community policing association chairman has also to answer for this largely monoethnic policy.

David Dass: The CPO cannot be faulted for what he has said. What he has said is the best parliamentary practice. Political parties may differ ideologically. They will fight to win elections.

But after the elections, when the dust of campaigning has settled, then the elected officials serve all. The MPs and state councillor serves all members of the community regardless of their political affiliation. As do the ministers and members of the state exco, as does the prime minster. The prime minister and his cabinet serve all - he is PM for all Malaysia and all Malaysians.

Whilst there will be attempts to discredit each other, 'electioneering' should stop as it would be illegal to use state funds to campaign. It would also be wrong for the federal government to starve an 'opposition' held state government of funds.

As CPO, Ayub's duty is to uphold the law. All citizens enjoy the equal protection of the law. Tourists or business people coming into the country must expect an efficient and honest police force.

Buffalo_Bill: Well said, CPO! The rakyat just hopes and prays that you practice what you preach. RMP is supposed to protect and ensure that laws are enforced for all Malaysians, irregardless whether they are PKR, BN, Umno or DAP. You will need to lead by example and ensure that you enforce the rule of law impartially. Then you will earn the respect of the rakyat.

Anonymous_3ebb: Ayub Yaakob is either ignorant or blind. Why doesn't he go around and see all these billboards which mention 'Satu Lagi Projek Oleh Kerajaan BN' (Another project by the BN government)?

Pakman: Yes, Ayub, you can talk and say this but your political master will say otherwise. Yes, MPs' are voted in by the people irrespective of political parties, but when it comes to allocating development fund by federal government, only BN-ruling MPs are given such fund and oppposition members are left out.

Michael Ng 34f2: Ayub, see that you shine better than your other brethren. Walk your talk and see than your men in blue treat all regardless of whatever race or political party, with fairness and impartiality. Show us your guts. Serve the public, not only the people in Putrajaya.

Christine Yong: Ayub, stop being a politician and do your job as a CPO. The chief minister is fair to all rakyat: all old people get RM100 regardless whether they support BN or Pakatan. The RM100 water rebate was given to all families, not just Pakatan Rakyat families.

Don't talk nonsense to get publicity. Just do your job properly. - Malaysiakini
