Conflicting info about Baharuddin's death

The family of Baharuddin Ahmad, who died during the July 9 Bersih 2.0 rally, has filed a sworn statement with the High Court on conflicting facts in the post-mortem report on his death.

The affidavit, signed by Baharuddin's daughter, Dr Ummi Mirza, said the medical report obtained by the family contained discrepancies from what was told to her by the forensics doctor after the post-mortem.

NONEAccording to the post-mortem report, the cause of Baharuddin's (left) death was heart attack, with indication that his lungs were clogged, but Ummi said she had previously been told otherwise.

"I was told by the forensics specialist previously that the lungs were in healthy looking (condition), but the post-mortem report stated that the lings were 'grossly oedematous and congested'," said Ummi, who is also a medical doctor.

She said the experts said her father's trachea was also slightly congested, possibly due to intubation. However, the post-mortem report stated (the trachea was) 'patent and not congested'.

In the affidavit, Ummi also said that the report claimed that her father's mouth had no discharge of fluid, but that she found bruises on his lips.

"The condition is different from what I saw on my late father's lips before the post-mortem. Furthermore, while I was bathing his corpse, I could still see the bruise on his lips," the affidavit says.

On July 17, Baharuddin's widow, Rosni Malan, lodged a police report demanding an inquest into her husband's death.

The sworn statement filed yesterday follows an application filed in the High Court on Aug 1 for an order to compel the magistrate's court to conduct an inquest into Baharuddin's death.

Baharudin, 59, fainted in the vicinity of KLCC during the July 9 rally at and was declared dead at Hospital Kuala Lumpur at 5.10pm. - Malaysiakini
