The Selangor Islamic Affairs Department (Jais) has asked for another month to complete the report on a check it conducted on a multi-racial dinner at the Damansara Utama Methodist Church on Aug 3, Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said today.
He said the request was made by the department at the initial meeting he had with the representatives of Jais and Harapan Komuniti, the organiser of the dinner, last Thursday.
"During the meeting, Jais said it had not completed its report and we decided to give them time to complete the report and other necessary action," he told a press conference after hosting an Aidilfitri open house at the State Secretariat building, Shah Alam.
Abdul Khalid, however, declined to reveal the nature of the meeting, only saying that the meeting was divided into three parts.
"The first part was to confirm the facts (with regard to the check conducted by Jais at the church), and then to confirm the process (what right does Jais have to conduct the check) and, lastly, whether the check is common or uncommon.
"From that pattern, we can come up with a certain conclusion to firm up the report and also to recommend other courses of action," he said, adding that he would hold two more meetings with Jais.
Jais believes it has a prima facie case
Abdul Khalid said Jais felt that it had a prima facie case based on the evidence gathered in connection with the check conducted on the church.
The menteri besar had announced that the state government formed a hearing committee to investigate the dispute over the check conducted by Jais on the church.
Last Thursday, Jais and Harapan Komuniti met the hearing committee, comprising Abdul Khalid, state mufti Tamyes Abd Wahid and his deputy Abdul Majid Omar, for the first time.
The open house was sponsored by the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) and Permodalan Negeri Selangor Berhad (PNSB).
