Deputy investigations and enforcement director Sharom Maarof told The Malaysian Insidertoday that the 12 had failed to appear before the state religious authority.
“We have asked all 12 individuals to come forward and give their statements about their attendance of the event but up to now they have not turned up and I understand that their lawyers have advised them not to do so.
“We will ask for the court order as soon as possible. We just want their statements to help with our investigations,” he said.
Sharom added that if the dozen fail to present themselves should a court order be served, Jais “may ask for them to be arrested.”
Jais had raided the Damansara Utama Methodist Church (DUMC) at the Dream Centre in Petaling Jaya last Wednesday, purportedly acting on a complaint that Muslims were spotted among those at the dinner.
The raid had caused an uproar among religious communities, and the Selangor government under Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim has since demanded a report from Jais to explain the raid.
But Muslim lobby groups have rallied behind Jais and Selangor executive councillor for religious matters, Datuk Hasan Ali, also defended the raid by claiming that the words “pray” and “Quran” were used in the presence of the 12 Muslims who were among the 100 attendees of the dinner.
This was among the evidence cited as proof by the PAS leader that Christians were attempting to convert Muslims during the function.
