Jais, PAS meeting deferred on sultan's advice

PAS will not be meeting with the Selangor Islamic Affairs Department (Jais) as scheduled today following the sultan's advice.

NONE“We asked for a meeting today, but Jais have given us a return reply that, as the case is still under investigation, and the sultan has advised Jais not to meet any other parties to ensure that information from the investigation is not leaked to anyone," said PAS vice-president Mahfuz Omar (left).

The Pokok Sena MP also expressed hope that his party will be able to meet Jais once its investigation is complete.

"We continue to hope that we will be able to meet Jais once it has completed its investigation... We want to meet Jais and the (Damansara Utama Methodist Church) to find out what really happened on that day.

"Jais said they did not raid the premises, but the church and the NGO (Harapan Komuniti) that organised the event said they did, so we want to meet them," he said.

Mahfuz added PAS was informed that Jais' investigation will only be completed after Hari Raya.

However, he called on the Islamic enforcement body to expedite its investigation, pointing out that prolonging the issue would lead to unwanted speculations.

“We hope that Jais can complete its investigation as soon as possible... Such a long period of time will lead to all kinds of controversies that would not be good for all parties,” Mahfuz said.

It was reported two days ago that Jais had submitted the preliminary report of its “inspection” of DUMC to Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim.

On August 3, Jais had entered DUMC's Dream Centre where a fundraiser dinner was being held by Harapan Komuniti based on a tip-off alleging proselytisation among attendees.

Jais found 12 Muslims among the crowd but the organiser had denied any allegations of trying to proselytise Muslims, stressingthat it was a fundraiser dinner for the HIV support group. - Malaysiakini
