Kota Kinabalu WATER FRONT; ONLY POLES, NO FLAG?

NO SPIRIT…. empty flag poles at Anjung Senja Esplanade, KK Water Front.

By : DAP MEDIA

THE 17 pieces of empty flag poles in front the KK Water Front Anjung Senja Esplanade has become a focal point of complaints coming from the general public who queried on what is the purpose of installing the 17 pieces of beautiful and expensive stainless steel flag poles but without hanging and flying any flags there.

The original objective to erect the flag poles is for the purpose of flying the state and national flags. They are symbolically reflecting the colors of the country, and they too will make the place lively. These flags can decorate the water front to be more attractive and beautiful.

Sabah DAP Petagas Branch Chairman, Allem Chieng was informed by the KK MP office after they received public complaints. He later went to check on the matter, he was surprised when he saw the flag poles are indeed empty and look very bare.

This is not a good sight, he said, and this is especially so when the country is gearing up to celebrate the two important dates on Independent Day and the Malaysia Day. This is a prestigious month long celebration where flags flying part is an important event. The government had even organized a Malaysia flag rising ceremony recently to mark the occasion.

This is especially important because the flags fly in front of several big hotels here and many famous restaurants here at the KK Water Front. Our local folks and our valued tourists would like enjoy walking along the beautiful sea front board walk, and to appreciate the night view of the city. The lights and the flags will definitely add on to intensify the beauty of the area.

What happen here, has the government really forgotten to fly the flags here, or rather the government has no money to buy the flags anymore? Do they need some public donation to put up the flags? May be we can assist them to put up the flags on their behalf? We are sure many Malaysian are willing to do that.

The slackness, carelessness and the bad performance of the BN government is demonstrated fully here, how can they miss such an important piece of work, and is it very difficult to fly the flags here?

Allem said the flags should be up every day here and will be maintained constantly. This is carried out in many other countries, especially those who have very good tourism in flow. Their water front’s are filled with colorful flags flying with the colors of their respective states or provinces. What is our tourism minister Datuk Masidi Manjun going to do about this? Did he not notice this, or he is rather busy involving with something else and no time to take care of this?

We want to see our 13 state flags, the Federal Territories flags and of course the most important Malaysia flags be up by tomorrow and should not be delayed
