Koh stays mum on what seat he wants to contest in GE-13

GEORGE TOWN - Penang Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon continues to keep mum over speculation that he would not contest in the state in the coming general election.

"When the time comes, you will know whether and where I will contest," he said after chairing a state working committee meeting here today.

Pressed further, Koh, who is also Gerakan president and minister in the Prime Minister's Department, said he needed to discuss with party members before making the announcement.

It was reported earlier that Koh had given hints he would not be contesting in Penang to give way for younger candidates.

Lately, his leadership, be it state or national, came under tremendous pressure from current and former party members, questioning his capability to lead the party.

Meanwhile, Koh said the state BN committee preparations for the general election had reached the second phase to strengthen the party in both state and parliamentary seats.

He said earlier, the BN working committee had begun its weekly walkabouts at several parliamentary constituencies to meet with the people and understand their needs.

On whether BN would be able to reclaim Penang, Koh said it would be an uphill task but was not impossible.
