KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 17 — PAS secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali will not apologise to Umno for accusing them of complicity in the Damansara Utama Methodist Church (DUMC) raid by religious authorities, and said today he had evidence to back his claims.
Mustafa told The Malaysian Insider that he had concrete proof of Umno’s role in the Selangor Islamic department (Jais) raid.
“I stand by what I said in Kuala Terengganu, so the question of apology does not arise. I have reliable information and sources which tell me that Umno has intervened in the examination (by Jais),” he said.
Umno Selangor yesterday said they would give Mustafa (picture) three days to apologise for accusing Umno of being involved in a Jais operation.
Umno state secretary Datuk Seri Ir Mohd Zin Mohamed said that Mustafa’s remarks were “ill-intended” to blemish Umno’s image as a component party member of the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN).
At a press conference in Kuala Terengganu yesterday, Mustafa claimed Umno was involved in the Jais raid on DUMC on August 3, and said he was even prepared to hand over the information to Jais director Marzuki Hussin.
DUMC has been in the news in recent weeks following the Jais raid on a thanksgiving dinner organised by NGO Harapan Komuniti on the church premises in Petaling Jaya.
The multiracial dinner was attended by about 100 people, including about a dozen Muslims.
Jais has since denied it raided the church, but had only conducted an “inspection”.
PAS has also postponed its meeting yesterday with DUMC following a letter from the church requesting the meeting be postponed.
