Senator fears S'gor may become 'another Sabah'

The sudden and unreasonable increase in the number of new voters in Selangor raises concern that the state may turn into 'another Sabah', a DAP senator, P Ramakrishnan, has warned.

Illegal immigrants in Sabah, he said, were given blue identity cards and became registered voters in constituencies where the ruling party was weak. These immigrants now outnumbered the local Sabah population.

NONE"The strong presence of millions of illegal and legal immigrants in the country, especially so in Selangor", Ramakrishnan (right) said, has raised fears among Selangor citizens that what happened in Sabah could happen in Selangor as well.

"There is concrete evidence of an Umno letter to register immigrants as voters in Hulu Selangor.

"Besides, there are many cases of fast-track citizenship among Indonesians, who become instant voters. The lame and callous response of the Election Commission and the silence of National Registration Department, to such evidence seems to justify the peoples' concerns," Ramakrishnan said.

The call by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to Umno supporters that Selangor must be won back by hook or crook and the confidence displayed by Umno in this gave credence to such fears, he added.

Ramakrishnan said Selangor Umno has claimed that BN would win in at least 38 of the 56 state constituencies, unlike the 20 it won in the 2008 general election when Pakatan Rakyat captured the country's wealthiest state.

"All these dubious manipulations are taking place without a regard to the massive gathering of people in support of Bersih 2.0's call for a fair and free elections. Many people fear that the 13th general election will be the dirtiest and most distorted general election in Malaysia's history," he warned.

"What is of grave concern is the coalition of Umno, Election Commission and National Registration Department to undertake this treasonous and anti-national security action. In supporting the BN government, these departments are prepared to sacrifice the security and sovereignty of Malaysia and its citizens."

Illegal use of Mydaftar?

While Malaysian born Indians and Chinese in tens of thousands have waited 40 to 50 years to get their citizenship, Ramakrishnan noted that droves of Indonesians sailing and walking into the country illegally get their citizenship within years, if not months.

NONE"The first Mydaftar campaign launched from Feb 19 to 26 received 15,000 applications but only 1,800 cases were solved. I understand from a reliable source that only about a hundred over blue identity cards were issued.

"The government is using the Mydaftar campaign to register thousands of foreigners from Indonesia as permanent citizens and within minutes they become automotic voters," alleged Ramakrishnan.

He said while police were using the Emergency Ordinance and the Internal Security Act on peaceful gatherings, no action was taken on the treasonous actions.

"Malaysians may not be able to elect a government of their choice if foreigners outnumber the locals.

"Malaysians will forever lose their rights and freedom in their own country. Umno/BN have shown that they will do anything to stay in power.

"Malaysians will lose their country to foreigners forever. We cannot allow this to happen. Malaysians must rise and defend our country from irresponsible people who are hell bent on ruling, regardless of the peoples' wishes," the senator added. - Malaysiakini
