Syura or bubur asyura

1. I sometimes wonder why is that in PR rule states, the Sultan tends to be powerful and show their strong independence. They seem to be able to speak their mind. In the case of Selangor, the palace has made several statements in the past few years that in the process appear to embarrass the state government. It started in the very first week TSKI became MB. In BN controlled states this does not seem to happen in the past and at present. I wonder why at times.
   

2. When the Selangor MB announces the Syura Advisory Council to solve the issues between DUMC and JAIS, true to my gut feeling, the palace made another statement. As anticipated, UMNO and its wagging dog PERKSA makes series of police report that says that the MB lied about what was discuss with the Sultan. To those who don’t know the meaning of the word “syura” is, they may confuse with “bubur asyura”. The problem with some people in our nation is that when an Arabic derivative word is used, immediately they think it is sensitive and making a mountain out of a molehill.
   

3. The word syura means nothing more than a “meeting”. What SSG wants to do is to organize a meeting between DUMC and JAIS and discuss issues. The palace by their own admission admitted that a meeting should be held and both the leadership of JAIS and MAIS is to be involved. There is nothing wrong with the use of the word syura. It is apt but unfortunately the way politics is run in this country even word can be manipulated. This is indeed a lesson learn for SSG. It is not so much about the palace reaction or “sultan murka” but the need to be more politically aware and more astute in doing things so that it doesn’t give any bullets for BN to attack them.
   

4. Right now, I wonder whether I should buy several volumes of Kamus Dewan, bound them in nice yellow cloth and offers them in the palace. I think the people living and working in the big house funded by the people need it badly and can make good use of it. On the other hand, maybe I should save my money and just email them

   My advice to all of us, appreciate the meaning of the very first word Allah thought Prophet Mohamed via Jibrail i.e. Iqra’. To the SSG, my advice is to avoid using fanciful words and stick to simple ones that the morons on the other political fence understand what it means.
