Utusan: Promise of Umno CM will win Penang for BN

The key for the BN to regain the state of Penang in the next general election is for it to promise to place an Umno member as the next chief minister, says Umno-owned Utusan Malaysia.

“If all are agreed to give the chief minister's post to Umno after the next general election, I am confident that Penang will be retaken,” read Zaini Hassan's column in today's edition of the Malay language daily.

utusan cuit 240811 anwar renaissanceHe pointed out that the tally of seats at the moment is 11 for Umno, one for PAS, 19 for DAP and nine for PKR.

“If all are in agreement (for Umno to hold the CM post), the Malay votes that were given to PKR shall be returned to Umno and the party will return to rule the state in the future.

“While some may say that this idea is like a daydream or an impossibility as the Chinese will not allow it, in politics anything is possible,” he argued.

Zaini also hit out at Gerakan president Koh Tsu Koon, who is also Penang BN chief, for making much noise of late, though he is himself puzzled why the mainstream media, accused of being in cahoots with the government, have decided to attack Koh head on, day in and day out.

“Penang BN should not create a ruckus. The focus is to re-take the state. The only troublemaker is Penang CM Lim Guan Eng. Why is everyone silent about him? The discussion now should be to rotate the CM post to Umno which won all the seats that BN have in the state assembly right now.

“No need to make noise. Gerakan shouldn't create trouble. Shut up and focus on the polls,” lashed out Zaini.

Renaissance bent proof of homosexuality?

Taking a dig at opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim's dramatic unsworn statement from the dock in court on Monday, Zaini also hints at the possible homosexuality of Anwar from his renaissance-like discourse and labelled him a Mandela wannabe.

“In defending himself (for which he cannot be cross-examined), Anwar read out his speech... as usual it is rife with quotations from the Quran, the speech of former South African president Nelson Mandela, Shakespeare and others. Does he want to be a Malaysian Mandela?” jibed Zaini.

Anwar's 32-page statement, said Zaini, was couched in patrician language and is full of jargon and philosophies in an attempt to portray the “Mandela-wannabe” Permatang Pauh MP into a 'renaissance' man.

“Anwar wants to be known as the 'renaissance man', or the person who brings about great change in this millennium... like Michelangelo... and Leonardo Da Vinci.”

Michelangelo, he said, sculpted the statue of David while Da Vinci drew the the Vitruvian Man, both showing full frontal nudity.

“Why do Michealangelo and Leonardo Da Vinci favour naked and handsome young men? For further information, read the biographies of these two renaissance figures and look at the pictures of (Michelangelo's) statue of David and (Da Vinci's) the Vitruvian Man,” added the columnist slyly.

While he did not mention it specifically in his article, the biographies of both 'renaissance' men which he asked readers to check out, feature ambiguities and suspicions as to their alleged homosexual behaviour.

Zaini concluded that Anwar's speech was full of tales of political conspiracy, but reminded readers that this is the second coming of Anwar's sodomy allegations.

“Once it may be true (that it is a political conspiracy), but it has been twice now,” he said, casting doubts on Anwar's claims of being an innocent victim.
