MP wants clear answer from Mais over 'dark conspiracy'

The Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) has to come out and state clearly the purpose of its Aug 5 meeting with the Attorney-General's Chambers and several Islamic NGOs, at which the raid on the Damansara Utama Methodist Church (DUMC) was discussed.

generation 709 220711 khalid samadThis is what Mais has to do to clear air on the matter, Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad, who has been locked in a battle with Mais on the Aug 3 raid on DUMC by the Selangor Islamic Affairs Department (Jais), is demanding.

The council has to give a clear answer on whether the meeting was an official programme, the Selangor PAS deputy commissioner said in a statement today.

Khalid sees the meeting a part of aconspiracy by Mais, Jais, the Attorney-General's Chambers and several Islamic NGOs to oust Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

Mais chairperson Mohamad Abzib Mohd Isa, in a statement issued last week, denied the allegation and said the meeting was to brief the NGOs on the Jais raid on DUMC.

Abzib also said Mais would study whether legal action could be taken against Khalid for slander.

Khalid , who had earlier demanded to know why the NGOs had to be briefed even before the official report on the raid had been handed over to the menteri besar, said Abzib's explanation did not answer the key question - which was on the nature of the meeting.

Secretive meeting means dark conspiracy

"I did not ask who chaired the meeting. I asked whether it was an official meeting or otherwise. If it was official, where is the invitation letter, what is the agenda and where are the meeting minutes?

"If all of these are absent and the meeting was held quietly, without an official letter, then it must be a dark conspiracy!" the outspoken MP declared.

"Or it is normal for Mais and Jais to hold such 'dark conspiracies'? Then, it is similar to the professionalism of BN! I want to know who invited (the participants) and organised the meeting, not who chaired the meeting."

The meeting was chaired by Selangor state executive councillor in charge of Islamic affairs, Hasan Ali.

The chairing of a meeting, Khalid added, was often just a formality to pave the way for others to speak - and at the Aug 5 meeting for instance, Abzib and the representative from AG's Chambers.

In an earlier statement to Khalid's demand for an explanation, Abzib stated that it was Mais' responsibility to hold such meetings to clarify issues so that they were accurately relayed to the people.
