What was agreed 48 years ago? Has it not been honoured? Do we not honour it now?

To those of you who partook in the poll put up on this blog 2 days ago, thank you.

As at the time of writing up this post, 216 or 92.31% of you said you would do the right thing

There is hope yet for this nation if you are representative of the majority of West Malaysians.

48 years ago, 0n 9th July, 1963, the United Kingdom, the Federation of Malaya, North Borneo ( now called Sabah ), Sarawak and Singapore entered into an agreement that gave rise to the formation of the Federation of Malaysia.

In February, 2010, at forums in Kota Kinabalu and Kuching, and then in July in the same year, at another forum in Kota Kinabalu, I heard for the first time that the terms of that agreement had not been faithfully given effect to, denying Sabahans and Sarawakians the fullest benefit of independence fro the U.K. secured by that agreement.

Related to this issue are two documents that were referred to again and again : a 20-point agreement relating to Sabah and an 18-point agreement relating to Sarawak.

To this day, I do not recall any response from the federal government disputing this very serious complaint.

What, precisely, is the non-compliance of the terms of the agreement of 1963 that is now complained of?

At a series of forums organised by the Malaysian Civil Liberties Movement (MCLM) scheduled to kick of next Monday, 19th September, 2011, in Kuala Lumpur to showcase our Rakyat Reform Agenda (RARA), eminent speakers from Sabah and Sarawak will share with us the precise nature of the non-compliance complained of.

Come and hear first-hand how, as is alleged, the Malaysia Agreement, 1963, has not been honoured.

Then consider the resolution to this matter proposed by MCLM, as part of our proposed reform agenda to be carried through by the new government post the 13th General Election.

Hope to see you all next Monday.
