Dep minister denies sex tape screened at gov't event

Umno information bureau chief Ahmad Maslan has denied that the party and BN showed a sex tape of a man closely resembling Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim at a briefing for civil servants and other community leaders in Perak last Saturday.

NONEAhmad (left), who is also a deputy minister in the Prime Minister's Department, said today no sex video was shown at the event.

"It was only what had been aired by TV1 and TV3 prior to this, and also pictures that had made their way into Utusan (Malaysia) and other newspapers. I am not stupid to do this," he said in a short SMS reply to Malaysiakini.

The event was the Majlis Penerangan Perdana (Premier Information Programme) held at the Jubliee Perak hall in Ipoh last Saturday and attended by more than 2,000 civil servants, community leaders, members of NGOs and members of the public.

It was reported in Sinar Harian today that Pakatan Rakyat lodged a police report yesterday that a sex video clip purportedly involving Anwar was screened during the programme.

Led by Perak PKR information chief Zulkifly Ibrahim, Pakatan questioned the screening of the clip as the matter was still being investigated by the authorities.

"The screening is also against the laws of the country," Zulkifly was quoted as saying in Sinar Harian today, and he added that he would question the morality of it, added that the "organisers are uncivilised".

He claimed the event was organised by federal ministers, deputy ministers and the Perak state executive council and that it was a clear abuse of power.

PAS: Umno and BN are desperate

Perak PAS deputy commissioner Misbahul Munir said Umno and BN were desperate in using an official government programme to show the sex video to criticise a certain political leader and Pakatan Rakyat Perak.

"This shows that Umno leaders are immoral by screening the clip which resembles Anwar during an information programme for the people'," Misbahul said.

He claimed the event was also attended by Ahmad Maslan, Umno vice-president Shafie Apdal, Finance Minister II Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah and Perak Menteri Besar Zambry Abdul Kadir.

Misbahul said the programme should have been used to explain the recent tabling of the budget or government policies for the people.

"This is an attempt to smear Pakatan Rakyat and we want the police to take action and investigate the matter of Umno using the event and government premises to show the video.

"We consider Umno and its leaders as having no dignity and are not civilised. They are prepared to do anything for their own political interests," he added.

Misbahul also urged the people of Perak to reject the leaders of Umno and BN when the general election is called, as they do not have the right morals.
