Ezam wants Aziz Bari, Malaysiakini probed over sedition

Senator Ezam Mohd Noor today lodged a police report against constitutional expert Abdul Aziz Bari and news portal Malaysiakini.

In the report lodged at the Section 6, Shah Alam police station, the parties said that Abdul Aziz’s comments published by the portal are seditious and a threat to peace and order.

NONE“Aziz Bari had acted insolently and was treacherous against the Malay royal institution. In his statements published by Malaysiakini, Abdul Aziz had incited the public to hate the royal institution,” read the report.

The report added that the law professor’s statement, pertaining to the Selangor sultan’s decree on the Selangor Islamic Affairs Department’s search on the Damansara Utama Methodist Church, caused “anger among Muslims in Selangor”.

“(The statement) had led to an disharmony and disturbs to the peace in this country. As such I urge that Aziz Bari and Malaysiakinibe investigated under the Sedition Act,” the report read.

The report also said that the academic “disrespected” the sultan as the head of Islamic affairs in Selangor, as provided in the Selangor constitution.

Also lodging separate police reports saying the same thing were anti-Pakatan Rakyat Selangor government NGO, Gerakan Anti-Penyelewengan Selangor (Gaps) chief Hamidzun Khairuddin and three other Gaps members.

‘Aziz should not be at UIA’

Speaking to reporters after lodging the report, Ezam urged the Universiti Islam Antarabangsa (UIA) senate to take action against the professor.

NONEHe said that Abdul Aziz (left), who is a senior academic at UIA, “should not be there” as he had brought shame to the institution.

Ezam, who was once PKR Youth chief, also said that the publication of Abdul Aziz’s statement was part of a “planned evil agenda”.

“This is not the first time Malaysiakini has published news which challenges the royal and religious institutions.

“I believe (the portal) spends every minute and every second producing news to undermine national institutions,” he said.
