Pakatan Rakyat leaders condemned Umno and its use of sex to tarnish their political rivals, and this time, it certainly looks like this time Prime Minister Najib Razak's party has gone too far in using the young son of Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng as bait.
"It is unspeakable and I am at a loss for words. As Umno faces the loss of power at the coming polls, their viciousness increases." PKR vice president N Surendran told Malaysia Chronicle.
"This is a young boy still in secondary school, not a young man about town. He is not an undergraduate or post-graduate student in his 20s having a good time with the girls in the pubs of Europe or US. This is still a boy who has not even finished secondary school," PKR vice president Chua Jui Meng told Malaysia Chronicle.
The latest sex accusation from the Umno blogs are Guan Eng's 16-year old son was involved in sexual misconduct and Guan Eng had paid RM200,000 to gag the girl and her family. As a result of the scandal, Guan Eng's son had to transfer from the Heng Yee schoo to St Xavier.
“If you are wondering who is this VVIP from Penang, he knows calculation and mathematics that he is able to set a price at RM100,000 for each breast groped by his son?” said one Umno blog in the coarse language that has come to typify the party in cyberspace.
Even Khairy took part
Guan Eng has issued a statement, condemning Umno for trying to wreck his son's life with "cruel" and "barbaric" lies. He explained his son asked for a transfer because he did not like the crew-cut hairstyle demanded by the Heng Yee school.
"My son is very shaken up by these lies. He has also not gone back to school for two days. I feel sad and that I am not able to protect my young son from these pro-Umno ferocious beasts," said Guan Eng.
"I hope those poking fun and spreading lies at my young son can look at themselves in the mirror as a father and ask whether they want their own child to suffer the trauma of such lies."
He slammed Umno leaders who highligted "this shameful episode" in their including Bukit Gelugor Umno division vice-chairman Novandri Hasan Basri and national Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin. Indeed, Khairy is fond of tweeting out news of his own children to charm Twitterjaya.
"Khairy's behavior is unbecoming of a national politician," said Surendran
The reaction from Netizens was just as harsh, given that Guan Eng's son is still in his teens. Some comments include:
"Pro umno bloggers ve no guts, they attack young children. Fight on the same level ubasket."
"CM Lim and family, True Penangites sympathize and support you all during this trial and tribulation, and greatly condemn the BN b******* for abusing and destroying a child just to get their greedy hands on Penang."
The best that Umno can do!
Pundits point to the timing of the blog posting and Novandri's involvement. Najib had been in Penang on Sunday to attend the Gerakan annual assembly. There, knowing how disliked his party is, Najib was quick to assure that Umno was not eyeing Penang but would fight alongside other BN parties to wrest the state away from the Pakatan Rakyat.
But instead of measures and policies to help Penangite or which could at least garner their respect, Umno strategists and bloggers could only whip up a sex scandal against Guan Eng's 16 year-old-boy.
"Prime Minister Najib Razak had declared during the Gerakan National Delegates Conference two days ago that BN had not given up on Penang and will go all out to recapture the state from Pakatan Rakyat. Following those Najib’s declaration of intent, we see pro-UMNO blogs and some UMNO leaders carrying out a serial campaign in the internet to systematically not only character assasinate me but also cruelly dragging in my young 16 year old son with their lies," said Guan Eng.
"My wife and I are furious that pro-UMNO blogs and some UMNO leaders have made or perpetuated false allegations against my young son of criminal wrongdoing. My family and I deplore these lies and fabrications against my young son as morally despicable and barbaric. UMNO should act against those trying to wreck the life of my young son with cruel and barbaric lies just to finish me off politically to prove that UMNO is not a 3D party that employs desperate, dangerous and dirty tactics just to cling on and retain power at any cost."
