Remember in school in our geography lessons we were told we are going to be self sufficient in rice because we have so much land, new hybrids, mechanisation and what not.
Today, BolehLand can't feed itself. It has to import rice from countries we use to look down as low down Commie and rural. More disgraceful these countries have twice or more population than BolehLand, yet they can export rice!!!
We have been importing rice since learning in school like 30 or years ago and today we are still at step one!!! The greatest irony is the government says it has some 'super weapon' to make us self sufficient. And how do they go about it?
Just a week back and to make the budget even more benefitting the people, the government announced this as reported in the local MSMedia
Malaysia plans to begin research into hybrid rice early next year in a bid to increase crop yield and reduce dependency on imported rice. Deputy Agriculture and Agro-Based Industries Minister Datuk Chua Tee Yong said the country was working with China to produce variant seeds that were most suitable to Malaysia's climate.
Ok, begin research into hybrid rice early next year huh?
Meanwhile, import then?
Why did it take us so long to harvest our scientists brains to think up of researching into hybrid rice long ago? Not that this is something new? Or our best brains have left leaving our local ones with parched dried up grey matter to think of doing research into hybrid rice long ago. Than to look at China only huh?
It is not that only China has hybrid rice. If our people care enough to look at even the US of A that may help like long ago!!!
But then it's really no point trying to grow more rice or food when we do nothing to ask our people to stop breeding like rabbits! Or at least some groups of people right?
Already the UN has warned that our population is dangerously growing too large and like the movie The Day The Earth Stood Still, humans are like parasites who just grow and grow and consume and consume!!!
And farmlands are being turned into dwelling places competing for space to grow food!!!
In BolehLand, growing rice is not about the lack of land but really a very sensitive political question. Not everyone is allowed to grow rice and this issue is not brought up because it has political implications!
In the interest of politics, we don't mind spending money outside to get something in!
Food production like everything else in BolehLand is tied to politics and race. If there is a Felda for rubber or oil palm, no politician dare to implement a Felda for rice growing open to all races! It will be political suicide!
So we prefer not to have no rice for the occasion, than for our leaders to rise above politics to resolve the rice and food production issue.
Hunger knows no political, race or religious distinction. Why are we allowing ourselves to be hungry just to fill our hungry appetite for political power huh? - YAHMEH!!!
