Parliamentarians all a-Twitter over report

Parliamentarians all a-Twitter over report

PETALING JAYA - Barisan Nasional and Opposition parliamentarians were embroiled in a "Twitter war" after the Auditor-General's Report was made available.

While Opposition MPs highlighted the wastage committed by the Government, Barisan representatives drew attention to discrepancies by the state governments under Pakatan Rakyat in their tweets.

DAP's Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua was one of the most active.

He posted no less than 20 tweets of his thoughts and findings on the report.

"AG Report: RM67.7m (S$27m) worth of hi-tech equipment delivered to National Space Centre since 2008 still in original packaging," read one of Pua's tweets.

Another read: "AG Report: Marine Parks Dept purchased Marine Binoculars for RM56,350 or 2,805 per cent higher than market price RM1,940."

His tweets received plenty of feedback from his followers, who either asked him for elaboration or had it re-tweeted.

Other Opposition MPs who also tweeted on Government wastage included DAP's Teo Nie Ching (Serdang) and Nga Kor Ming (Taiping).

On the other side of the divide, P. Kamalanathan (BN-Hulu Selangor) actively tweeted against the Selangor government.

"AG Report on Sgor: KDEB suffered losses of RM122.25 in 2009 but bonuses costing RM576,563 were paid out to 30 employees."

Another of his tweet, accompanied by a photo taken of the report, read: "AG Report on S'gor; Hutan Lipur Kancing, Hulu Selangor is not maintained and in a derelict state."

He also tweeted how the state government had used billboards meant for promotion of tourism to promote its free water campaign.

Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan (BN-Kota Belud) defended the Government's overspending.

"I am satisfied with this year's Audit Report. Transparent. >50k projects monitored. Surely some bad apples. But much reduced," his tweet read.
