Penang DAP: Umno a sex scandal manufacturer

Umno has been accused of manufacturing sex scandals to discredit political opponents.

Penang DAP chairperson Chow Kon Yeow said this is Umno's latest repertoire in addition to the frequent stoking of ethnic and religious tensions.

NONE"After 50 years of so called nation- building, Umno's politics of dirt and grime today is a shameful reminder of how much we have degenerated as a civil and democratic society.

"Today, Umno resorts not only to playing up ethnic and religious tensions but also to manufacturing sex scandals as a means of destroying their opposition."

Chow was referring to the latest series of attacks by Umno on Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, accusing him of paying RM200,000 to hush up an alleged molest case involving his teenage son.

Lim and school authorities have denied the claim, but Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin poked fun of the situation by tweeting: "@PapaGomo Mungkin dia roboh Kampung Buah Pala sebab nak ganti dengan Kampung Buah Dada (Perhaps he demolished Buah Pala village to replace it with Breast Village)."

Khairy has been heavily criticised for this but has refused to apologise, claiming that BN leaders have suffered much worse at the hands of Pakatan Rakyat politicians.

Chow denied claims that Pakatan practise "gutter politics" or that it abuses their opponents' children.

"Umno must now make a stand. Can you be civil and well mannered? Or are you a party full of jokers, scoundrels and liars?" he asked.

He argued that it is a lame excuse to argue that Lim's son is fair game because BN leaders "get it far worse".

"It is no licence for (Khairy) and his band of Umno bloggers to mouth vile and evil words against another person. His behaviour shames Parliament," he said.

A photograph of the alleged victim used by the pro-Umno bloggers has proven to be fake.

Malaysiakini has refrained from posting a link to the blog, in order to protect the identity of Lim's son, who is a minor. This is in line with requirements of the Child Act 2001.
