Zul Noordin's sodomy gimmick: PAS members like it with their wives!

Zul Noordin's sodomy gimmick: PAS members like it with their wives!

MP for Kulim Bandar Baru Zulkifli Noordin, whose political career has been sliding downhill, managed to rile up his PAS colleagues in Parliament with an accusation that if permitted to implement hudud, the Islamist party would make it legal for men to sodomise their wives.

Currently anal sex is forbidden in Islam, according to Zulkifli, a PKR tunrcoat who is now an Independent MP friendly to Prime Minister Najib Razak's Umno party. But the Syariah Criminal Offence (Hudud and Qisas) Enactment gazetted in 2002 by PAS in Terengganu, states that sodomy is illegal unless a man does it with his wife, said Zulkifli. How can this be, he asked.

"This is not Islamic law, this goes against Islam. I don't know what are the beliefs of PAS, they created this themselves," said Zulkifli during the debate on the Supply Bill, which is totally un-related.

Even Bung Mokhtar wakes up

He drew immediate fire from the opposition MPs with his sly insinuations that PAS men encouraged sodomy with their wives. It also woke up dozy MPs from the BN side in double-quick time, who then rushed to attack their Pakatan counterparts with ribald jokes.

“Bini tetap bini, tetapi tidak boleh diliwat” (she is your wife, it is true, but she cannot be sodomised)," rushed in BN MP for Kinabatangan Bung Mokhtar, who was sentenced to one month's jail and fined RM1,000 last year for committing polygamy without the consent of the Islamic marriage registrar.

"Zul is trying his best to be in the good books of the Umno big bosses. He needs their support if he wants to stand in the coming general election. See how he is wasting Parliament's time by bring up a totally unrelated issue," Batu MP Tian Chua told Malaysia Chronicle.

Perhaps, Zul was indeed trying to please the Umno bigwigs. Later on, he told reporters he raised the matter because he wanted to show that PAS's hudud was not the 'right' type of hudud. Hudud is the part of Islamic law relating to criminal prosecutions and persecutions.

Former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad had rejected the PAS version of hudud because it was not Islamic hudud, declared Zulkifli.

But his Pakatan colleagues are not amused. They plan to table a motion to bring Zulkifli before the parliamentary Rights and Privileges Committee for censure on Monday.
