The brouhaha surrounding the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) spewed from the vengeance of an officer who was dismissed for alleged breach of trust, who then "sold" related information to the opposition.
Malay rights NGO Perkasa chief Ibrahim Ali said this was revealed by NFC chairperson Mohamad Salleh Ismail in a dialogue with 12 Malay NGOs at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur today.
Without exposing the identity of the former NFC "marketing executive", Ibrahim said police reports have been lodged against the officer, who allegedly misappropriated RM2.7 million said to be from sales of beef to supermarkets.
Ibrahim claimed that Salleh, who is also the husband of Women, Family and Community Development Minister Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, said at the briefing that the company made RM150,000 daily from beef sales.
No information on the misuse of NFC funds was revealed to the media when Salleh first countered attacks by the opposition that the company directors, made up mostly of his children, had misused the government's RM250 million soft loan to purchase luxury condominiums, cars and go on overseas trips.

MACC, police urged to speed up probe
Perkasa said the information, inside a pendrive taken away by the marketing executive and eventually fed to the opposition, was not detailed and only gave "a one-way picture" about how the money was spent.
"Maybe the total (payment) was the only thing stated, but not what the payment entailed, and maybe there were no breakdown of what was the payment for," Ibrahim said in defence of the NFC.
However, Ibrahim urged the police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to speed up their investigations in order to clarify what exactly happened.
The government had authorised a loan of RM250 million to NFC in to start a national feedlot centre in Gemas, Negri Sembilan, in 2006 to help reduce the country's beef imports.
The initial target was to produce 60,000 head of cattle a year.
The opposition has accused NFC of abusing a large chunk of the RM250 million allocation for the cattle-rearing project to buy luxury properties and prime plots of land unrelated to the project.
