Muhammad Safwan Anang, the student who was allegedly assaulted by the police during the crackdown at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) protest last weekend, said his car windscreen was smashed while he was receiving treatment in hospital.

"I received call from friends at 10am, Jan 1, who said Safwan's car windscreen was smashed.

"Safwan is still unable to make a police report because his health does not allow him to do so," she said in a text message.

She added that Safwan will be sent to a private hospital this morning because he has been complaining of chest pains after being discharged from the Slim River hospital yesterday.

At the sit in on New Year’s day that the police had moved in to break up, the Gerakan Menuntut Kebebasan Akademik (Bebas) chairperson from University Malaya collapsed and started convulsing into fits during the melee.

He added that he will lodge a police report on the incident soon, and also plans to take legal action.

Perak police chief Mohd Shukri Dahlan had however denied any police brutality during the scuffle, and said the police will set up a special task force to investigate such allegations in several blogs.

It was also reported that a video of the incident uploaded on Youtube did not show any police violence.
