Phantom voters in Lobak

Negri Sembilan EC will investigate discrepancies in the Seremban parliamentary constituency voter lists following complaints from the DAP.

SEREMBAN: Lobak assemblyman Anthony Loke is furious over the unusually large number of new voters in his constituency and wants the state Election Commission (EC) to “clean up” the voter list before the coming general election.

Armed with evidence in the form of a list of dubious voters, Loke, accompanied by Senawang DAP assemblymen P Gunasekaran, lodged a complaint with Negri Sembilan EC yesterday.

“The voters’ list for the fourth quarter of 2011 shows 1,103 new voters were transferred to Bagan Pinang and 891 to Gemas.

“That is possible as there are big army camps there. But Lobak recorded third highest in terms of new voters transferred (670), and this is not possible.

“ I found there are 110 voters whom I can identify as phantom voters as their addresses do not exist.

“For example, out of the 77 voters transferred to Taman Sri Amber, 60 of the addresses do not exist at all,” said Loke, who is also Rasah MP.

According to him, the house numbers in Taman Sri Amber start with the digits 400.

But the addresses of the 60 voters whom Loke had identified carried house numbers running from 17 to 380.

He also pointed out to FMT an “unusual trend” in the voters’ list where four people who were registered as living in one house, which incidentally did not exist, had different parents.

He said the four names were Yellomalai A/L Subramaniam, Ravichandar A/L Raju, Vaejenti Mala A/P Ponnurangam and Rukumani A/P Manie. They were all registered as living in No131, Taman Sri Amber.

“This is a work of politicos who have no dignity and principle. We know whose job this is,” Loke said.

EC to probe complaint

Meanwhile Negri Sembilan EC director, Afizam Abdullah Sani, said they will look into Loke’s complaint.

He said the state EC will keep in view all new voter lists’ under the Seremban parliamentary constituency for the fourth quarter of 2011 until investigations are completed.

Afizam also confirmed rumours that the EC had terminated the services of two assistant registrars of voters last month due to serious offence.

“They were involved in a serious offence of registering persons who are already dead,” said Afizam.
