Form 5 Textbook question, how do you defend the Malays ..?

Is the above question correct?

Is there any logic to the above question raised? What is the intention of the publisher or writer of the question? Read again and try to understand what the answer would be that he wants from the above question.

IF YOU ARE A LEADER, WHAT ARE THE TWO STEPS NEEDED TO DEFENDING THE MALAY status quo?

Unbelievable guys. Malaysia is a multi-racial country and you still find some racist writer or publisher trying to create sensitivity among the plural nation.

These are not questions that should be highlighted in the textbook for Form 5 students. What's more its racists while trying to undermine the other races living in Malaysia. The recent incident at KFC had demonstrated how the races- Chinese and Malays were forced to settle the differences without any involvement of NGOs or political parties.

The person who drafted QUESTION 2 should have realise it would create sensitivity among the other races while the main vision of education must be to unite and have a harmonious society of various races. The question posed must have raised how to live with one another in unity and peace.

UNBELIEVABLE. The textbook can be labelled racist and if allowed to be continued in its used can create racial tension. It goes against PM Najib's 1MALAYSIA concept were UNITY among the various races in Malaysia is the upmost agenda. The Ministry of Education must accept the blame for not vetting the contents of this Form 5 textbook and the Minister and Ministry must apologise to the Malaysian public for their oversight.

Do you think we can HEAR from them!!!!

Malay status textbook question raises netizens' ire

A Form Five exercise book containing a question about maintaining the status of the Malays has earned the ire of netizens.

The question, photographed and uploaded on Facebook on Feb 26, has garnered close to 3,000 shares.

The secondary school exercise book is part of the ‘Effective Practice’ series published by Oxford Fajar for Form Five history.

NONEThe contentious question is on Page 31, which reads: “If you are a leader, name two steps you can do to defend the Malays’ status quo?”

Netizen Jack Lim who uploaded the question, wrote on the picture’s caption: “Flip my daughter history exercise book and this caught my eye. I feel sorry for my kid to study in this country.”

It has since garnered several negative feedbacks from netizens countrywide.

“This is the work of those racist guys hiding in the system,” said Chin Yew Meng on Facebook, while Vincent Wong said: “This is real sick.”

Question taken out of context

However, when contacted, book publisher Oxford Fajar social science unit editorial manager Nurazizan Abdul Aziz took pains to clarify that the question had been taken out of context.

“When the question was written, it was in the context of ‘Malays against the British’, not Malays against any other races.

“Don’t misunderstand, it was about the Malayan Union then, not Malays as they are now,” she said.

Nurazizan added that all the questions were constructed based on the textbook set by the government for secondary schools, and there was no other intention on the part of the publisher to offend anyone.

The answer to the question, which is found on Page J10 of the book states: “To tighten citizenship” and “Pressure the British to protect Malay interests”.

  1. You can always take things out of context to suit your need, can't you?

When I first saw this in the FB I was pissed just as anyone would. But I didn't post any comment and now that I've read this in your postings, I see nothing wrong with the question.
