Is EC ‘fixing’ Sabah?

Political maverick Jeffrey Kitingan wants to know why the 'whole of Sabah' is facing a shortage of voter registration forms.
KOTA KINABALU: Is the Election Commission (EC) on a “sabotage” mode in Sabah, where growing resentment at the grassroots over government policies and factionalism within the state Umno and its allies is threatening Barisan Nasional’s grip on power?
State Reform Party (STAR) Sabah chapter chairman Jeffrey Kitingan seems to think so.
According to him, he has received, in recent weeks, following feedback and complaints, that there are no more voter registration forms available in Sabah.
He said his people in various districts who want to register as voters before the next general election had been told by the post offices that they had run out of the forms.
He said STAR divisional leaders in Tenom had inquired with the Tenom post office, but were told there were no more forms.
“When they called the post office in Kota Kinabalu they were also told the same, and that the new stock of forms “belum sampai” (not arrived yet).
“I refuse to believe the EC can face this simple problem especially because they are the ones who have been urging Malaysians to register as voters,” he said in a statement.
“Is it possible this is one of those cases of planned restriction of forms due to some motives?” he asked.
Jeffrey urged the EC to quickly clarify the matter, saying that such a shortage was “unacceptable”.
“Such forms are not difficult to produce, unlike in the case of producing ICs and credit cards.
“If a national newspaper can print up to 300,000 copies of its papers everyday, I don’t see any reason why a national organisation like the EC can run out of simple one-page forms.
“In fact, such forms should be available for downloads in the EC website.”
“If it is true that the whole of Sabah has run out of forms, the people would interpret it negatively and believe the EC is up to something fishy.
“We in STAR suspect this may be a deliberate act to limit or stop new voters from going into the electoral role perhaps because of the belief that the younger crop of voters are mostly anti-BN.”

kejadian ini tidak harus berlaku. Pihak EC harus memastikan kesemua pendaftaran dibuat dengan lancar.

  2. There are over 1 million locations throughout the country that is open for registration. Those who wanted to register as voters can go to any of these locations and not necessary to the Election Commission office.
