MCA whips 'dynastic' Pakatan
MCA has likened PKR deputy president Azmin Ali’s exhortationsagainst “dynastic politics” to the pot calling the kettle black, pointing out the irony of “familial bonds among opposition parties”.
“PKR’s unelected ketua umum(de facto leader) a laanugerah Tuhan (gift of God) is Anwar Ibrahim, while the president and (a) vice-president are his wife (Dr) Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and daughter Nurul Izzah respectively,” MCA vice-president Chor Chee Heung(right) said in a statement.
With such pedigree in their leadership ranks, Chor argued that PKR must itself practise what it preaches and “dish out similar advice” to its allies.
In the DAP, “father-son ties reign”, while key positions in the party’s central working committee are unelected and doled out to those with connections, he said.
“DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng is son of senior advisor Lim Kit Siang... Chair(person) Karpal Singh has two sons, Gobind Singh and Jagdeep, who are both elected representatives.
“Perak DAP chairperson Ngeh Koo Ham’s iron grip rule, aided by his cousin and state DAP secretary Nga Kor Ming. has caused consternation among the ranks.”
Chor said the same holds true in PAS where its Youth deputy chairperson Nik Abduh Nik Aziz is the son of party spiritual advisor Nik Aziz Nik Mat.
‘Pakatan just like North Korea’
Chor, who is also Housing and Local Government Minister, said he believes that Azmin’s remarks against dynastic politics have “a dual purpose”.
“To the larger audience tired of dynastic politics as evidenced in (Pakatan parties and which) places the opposition in the same league as North Korea, Azmin(right) extols that he has to remind the party leadership to be careful so that (nepotism and cronyism) do not seep into PKR.
“However, to prevent himself from falling out of favour with his mentor (Anwar), given the competition he faces from his rival Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim, Azmin contradicts himself by coming to Anwar’s defence with the nonsensical rationale that he is confident Anwar will not let family influence dominate PKR.”
The double-edged statement, Chor added, is an excuse to override the public backlash against a naked display of “dynastic politics which personify Pakatan parties”.
